I live in Markham Canada and the cheapest studio condo in the entire
city is about half a million with condo fees of at least a thousand
bucks a month. A new detached house starts around the 3 million dollar
mark not $420,000 like in America. Rents start around $2,500 a month for
a studio apartment with rats cockroaches mold and bedbugs.

Oh, we used to dream of livin’ in a corridor! Would've been a palace
to us. We used to live in an old water tank on a rubbish tip. We got
woken up every morning by having a load of rotting fish dumped all over
us! House? Huh.
