From MAD comics #3 1953 (pre MAD Magazine) based upon the original
Dragnet Radio Show.
(That's why Joe Friday doesn't look like Jack Webb.) Drawings by the
incredible Bill Elder.

The catch phrase was a spoof on the small talk formula of the Dragnet series.

They visited Dragnet again in later issues based uopn the TV version. A
new gag was the consumption of cartons of cigarettes by the cast.
(The original sponsor was Fatima cigarettes, later switching to Chesterfield)
It's WISE to smoke FATIMA!

So there, Mr. Smartypants.

sincerely yours,

John melon

But they got the capitalization right
to get the capitalization right i would have to go through and manually correct it but the bottom dweller Apple dictation software doesn't do it correctly
